Auctioned vehicles in Japna show all-time high for January

According to Used Car, Inc., a specialist used car data center, the nuber of consigned vehicles at auto auctions across Japan increased by 10.5% to 617,796 unites.

This is the first double-digit increase on the year in 14 months since November 2005.

The number of sold vehicles against total consigned vehicles also rose by 7.5% year-on-year to 33,167 units.

The auto action industry has made a brisk start this year.

The data for auto auctions is collected and edited by Used Car, Inc. based on a total of 121 auto action sites across Japan, which include 48 specialist auctioneers, 31 carmaker affiliated auctioneers, & 42 regional group auctioneers (JU group).

Japan’s export of used vehicles up 5.7% to 59,783 units

Used vehicle exports in January 2007 were 59,783 units, up 5.7% from a year earlier.

The January figure also represented a 39.3% decline compared with the previous month (December 2006).

Exports to Russia were relatively large at 17,800, up 27.7% compared with year-ago result.

Russia’s share reached 29.8% in January, which is 4.5 points smaller than last year’s average monthly share of the country.

Japanese automakers post record auto sales in America

Three Japanese automakers posted record U.S. sales in March in sharp contrast with the ‘big three’ US car makers, which saw their sales fall year on year yet again, according to American research firm Auto Data Corporation. 

Both Toyota and Nissan attained record monthly sales at 242,675 units and 111,119 respectively over the year before. Honda enjoyed record sales for the month of March with 148,382 units, up 11.3%.

Meanwhile, sales fell 3.9 percent for GM, 9.1 percent for Ford and 4.6 percent for Chrysler division of DaimlerChrysler.

Sales by Mazda rose 47.9% and Mitsubishi rose 22.3% in March in America, according to media reports in New York.
