Exports of used construction machinery in January-March totaled 14,075 units, down 31.7% from a year earlier. The down was smaller than that of used vehicle exports(down 63.4%) for the same period.
The International Auto Trade Association (iATA) created a country-based ranking list, above based on figures provided by Finace Customhouse.
Hong Kong ranked first with 4,611 units, down 10.5% from a year earlier. Vietnam (2,259 units, off 28.5%) and Thailand (1,053 units, down 22.4%) came in second and third, respectively. Combined volume of used construction machinery (excavator, shovel loader, bulldozer, truck crane, lifter, tractor, etc.) bound for the top three countries take a 56% share of the total exports.
Exports to Bancladesh (up95.4%) and Egypt (up 43.8%) sharply increased.
Due to shrinking demand for autoobiles worldwide, Japanese carmakers’s overseas production totaled 2,530,593 units in October-December 2008, down 18.6% compared with the previous year.
Vehicle output in North America plunged by 26.8% to 739,113 units. Japanese auto production in the U.S. declined by 30.3% to 584,107 units.
Production in Europe also dropped by 31.9% to 351,016 units.
On the other hand, production scale down in Asia was relatively small 7.8%.
Japanese auto production abroad in full year 2008 totaled 11,651,428 units, down 1.8% from a year earlier. It marks the first decline in ten years.
Used vehicle deregistrations for export (Yushutsu-masshou) in April totaled 59,660 units, down 30.8%, or 26,547 units fewer, compared with the year ago month, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers association. It was the second consecutive decrease year on year.
The April total was made up of 17,568 midsize & largesize cars, down 34.8%, 28,184 small cars, off 33.8%, 3,444 heavy- and medium-duty trucks, off 9.7%, 8,516 light trucks, down 17.9%, 371 buses, down 30.4%, and1,577 special purpose and other vehicles, down 18.7%.
Toyota vehicles accounted for 50.3% (62,472 units) of total deregistrations for export in April, 2.4-point smaller than previous month.
Used vehicles registratins, excluding 660cc engine minivehicles, totaled 356,476 units in April 2009, down 1.0% on the year.
It was year on year decline for third consecutive month.
According to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association, the March total was made up of 139,323 midsize & large-size cars, off 2.0%, 162,934 small cars, down 0.5%, 19,077 heavy-and medium-duty trucks,?up 0.2%, 23,938 light trucks, up 0.2%, 2,169 buses, off 2.0%, 8,372 special purpose vehicles, down 0.9%, and 661 heavy special purpose vehicles, down 7.9%.
Sojitz Corporation said that it is starting to sell South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor Co.’s vehicles in Puerto Rico.
The trading house has acquired the import and sales operation from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation for an undisclosed price.
About 100,000 to 120,000 automobiles are purchased annually in Puerto Rico. Sojitz aims to sell 10,000 of the Hyundai vehicles there in five years, quadrupling the number of Hyundai cars that Mitsubishi sold there in 2008, including Elantra and Santa Fe passenger cars as well as new models.
Sojitz also markets Hyundai cars in Venezuela, Argentina, Chile and Peru.
