Used vehicle sales decline for 6th straight month

Sales of over-1,000cc engine used vehicles in July declined 5.7% on the year to 344,371 units, making the sixth straight monthly drop.

According to Japan Automobile Dealers Association, it was the second lowest figure for that month, trailing only the number logged in 1978 when the statistics began.

The July total was made up of 140,025 midsize & largesize cars, down 5.4%, 153,963 small cars, down 5.0%, 16,863 heavy and medium duty trucks, off 10.5%, 23,616 light trucks, down 6.6%, 1,395 bguses, down 22.7%, 7,656 special purpose vehicles, off 9.5%, and 846 heavy duty special purpose vehicles, up 2.5%.

Sales of used vehicles in the first seven month of this year totaled 2,525,849 units, down 4.2% from a year earlier.

Russia Extends car import tariffs until July 2010

Existing car import tariffs will stay unchanged for at least another nine months, a Russian government committee announced on August 19.

A government committee on tariff policy, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov, decided to temporarily extend the tariffs (until July 2010), according to the government web site. The move would discourage the recovery of imports of Japanese used cars in the near future.

Deregistrations for export drop 49.8% in June

Used vehicle deregistrations for export (Yushutsu-masshou) in June totaled 71,741 units fewer, compared with the year ago month, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association. It was the fourth consecutive decrease year on year.

The June total was made up of 18,950 midsize & largesize cars, down 56.4% 33,241 small cars, off 53.5%, 5,048 heavy- and medium-duty trucks, off 28.6%, 11,770 light trucks, down 30.0%, 680 buses, up 2.7%, and 2,043 special purpose and other vehicles, down 40.8%.

In the first six months of this year, deregistered vehicles for export totaled 564,314 units, 564,314 units fewer than previous year.

Used vehicle sales in June continue to decline

Sales of used vehicles in June declined 2.7% on the year to 337,558 units.

The figure, which excludes sales of minivehicles (660cc engine class), marked the fifth straight month of year on year decline.

The June total was made up of 134,419 midsize & large-size cars, off 3.0%, 151,124 small cars, down 2.2%, 17,176 heavy- and medium-duty trucks, off 7.0%, 24,542 light trucks, down 2.1%, 1,263 buses, up 3.3%, 8,071 special purpose vehicles, up 0.5%.

Meanwhile, sales of used vehicles in the first six month of this year totaled 2,181,478 units, down 3.9% from a year earlier, representing 9th straight year of decline. The figure is also the lowest first half level since 1984.
