New vehicle sales off 0.5%

Sales of new vehicles, including 660cc engine minivehicles, in August totaled 308,552 units, down 0.5% from a year earlier.

Toyota saw the first year-on-year increase in 13 months.  The carmaker’s vehicle sales rose 10.4% in August, thanks to strong demand for the Prius hybrid.

Honda’s sales also increased 4.5% backed up by the Insight hybrid and Fit subcompact. The company also posted the 5th consecutive month of increase in sales of over 1,000cc class.

Industry-wide sales of over 1,000cc engine vehicles(Tourokusha) totaled 198,265 units, up 2.3% on the year. It also marked the first increase in 13 months since July last year.

On the other had, minivehicle (Kei) sales showed the 10th consecutive month of decrease.

Deregistrations for export drop 34.8% in August

Used vehicle deregistrations for export (Yushutsu-masshou) in August totaled 52,559 units, down 34.8%, or 28,052 units fewer, compared with the year ago month, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association. It was the sixth consecutive month of decrease year on year.

The August total was made up of 14,120 midsize & largesize cars, down 43.2%, 23,717 small cars, off 42.4%, 4,144 heavy- and medium-duty trucks, up 15.5%, 8,485 light trucks, off 5.3%, 520 buses, up 29.4%, and 1,573 special purpose and other vehicles, down 2.2%.

Toyota vehicles accounted for 56.4% (29,643 units) of total deregistrations for export in August, 2.3-point smaller than previous month.

In the first eight months of this year, deregistered vehicles for export totaled 695,116 units, down 30.4%, or 303,114 units fewer than previous year.

Used vehicle sales down for 7th straight months

Sales of over-1,000cc engine used vehicles in August declined 9.1% on the year to 274,234 units, making the 7th straight monthly drop.

According to Japan Automobile Dealers Association, the August total was made up of 110,133 midsize & large-size cars, down 8.8%, 124,632 small cars, down 4.8%, 13,635 heavy- and medium-duty trucks, off 36.3% , 18,127 light trucks ,down 8.1%, 960 buses, down 4.8%, 5,919 special purpose vehicles, off 17.9%, and 821 heavy-duty special purpose vehicles, up 32.0%.

Sales of used vehicles in the first eight month of this year totaled 2,800,083 units, down 4.7% from a year earlier.

Nagano, Japan (10/2/2009) - - Royal Trading, originally of Royal Auto Service, has created a French version of its global auto trading website. Royal Trading has offered various auto export services globally since 1987 and in that time has expanded its operations into many French-speaking countries. The French release of the Royal Trading website will better facilitate operations in these and new market areas such as the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The French version of the website officially launched on September 11th and offers the full range of services and products featured on the English version of the website.
