New car sales down 23% in October

Combined sales of over 1,000cc engine vehicles and minivehicles in October totaled 304,328 units, down 23.2% compared to the previous year.

In the January-October period, auto sales totaled 4,344,685 units, up 14.3% from 2009.

Sales of new vehicles, excluding under 660cc-engine minivehicles, totaled 193,258 units in October, down 26.7% from year-ago result.

In the first ten months, vehicle sales were 2,846,804 units, up 19.8% from the same period last year.

In October ,Toyota Prius (21,769 units) maintained the best seller position despite of 19.1% decline on the year.

Suzuki Wagon R ranked second with 15,175 units, up 0.7%, while Honda Fit came in third with 14,034 units, down 9.2%.

Sales of Toyota vehicles, excluding Lexus, declined 24.2% to 101,518 units.

Sales of Suzuki and Daihatsu vehicles were 45,120 units, off 12.8%, and 40,449 units, down 19.2%, respectively.

Honda’s sales totaled 37,744 vehicles, down 29.2%.  Sales of Nissan vehicles were 33,628 units, down 24.1%

Bangladesh, Peru fall due to problems

Russia maintained the No.1 position of the top destinations for used vehicle exports. Exports to Russia totaled 9,126 units, up 44%. The average FOB price slightly declined to 558,782 yen.

Exports to New Zealand totaled 7,537 vehcles, down 18%. The average FOB price declined by more than 50,000 yen to 335,703 yen.

Used vehicles bound for Chile rose 7% to 5,863 units, while those to South Africa declined 26% to 5,859 units on the year.

Exports to U.A.E. sharply declined 28% to 5,474 vehicles. The average FOB price also declined by about 30,000 yen to 297,766 yen.

Used Vehicles bound for kenya increased 3% to 5,456 units.

Exports to Sri Lanka continued to increase. Vehicle to that nation in October totaled 3,919 units, compared with the previous year’s 180 units. The average FOB price also remained in the over 1 million-yen mark.

In contrast, exports to Bangladesh fell 51% to 1,819 units. Although demand for Japanese reconditioned cars is still strong, importation procedures remain unstable, according to local sources.

Exports to Peru also shrank due to the government sudden action to tighten imports of used cars. Recently, several thousands of vehicles were found to be illegally modified such as odometer clocking by some exported there, according to industry sources.

In the first 10 months, used vehicle exports totaled 698,351 units, up 30.9% from a year earlier.

Exports to U.A.E. sharply decliend 28% to 5,474 vehicles. The average FOB price also declined by about 30,000 yen

Used vehicles exports down 1.8% in October

Used vehicle exports in October totaled 72,782 units, down 1.8% from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Finance Customhouse statistics. It marked the first year-on-year decline since December 2009.

The October results also showed an increase of 5.3% compared with the previous month.

There were sharp increases in used vehicles bound for Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Kyrgyz, Zambia, Trinidada and Tobago, and Guyana. These six countries all marked over 100% increase each.

According to the analysis conducted by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA), 10 countries in the top 25 destinations saw year-on-year decreases for October, compared with 9 for September.
