New car sales first rise in 6 years

Japanese auto sales in 2010 increased for the first time in six year.

Combined sales of over 1,000cc engine vehicles (so-called ”Tourokusha”) and minivehicles in 2010 totaled 4,956,136 units, up 7.5% from a year earlier. All domestic manufacturer saw year-on-year increases.

Sales of new vehicles excluding under 660cc-engine minivehicles, totaled 3,229,716 units, up 10.6% from year-ago result.

Toyota’s sales increased 13.8%. Sales of Nissan vehicles rose 7.4%. Honda’s sales were up 5.1%.

New vehicle sales, however, have already entered the shrinking mode on a month basis.

December sales of new vehicles, excluding under 660cc-engine minivehicles, were 179,666 units, down 28.3% from year-ago result. It marked the fourth consecutive month of decrease.

Brazil climbs to 4th largest auto market

In 2010, new vehicle sales in Brazil increased to 3.51 million units, making that nation world’s fourth largest market. The Brazilian 2010 figure, which outsold those of Germany, also represented an year-on-year increase for 4th straight year.

China ranked first in the auto market worldwide. Auto sales jumped 32% on the year to 1810 vehicles there.

United States came in second. New vehicle sales rose 11.1% year-on-year to 11.58 million units, showing the first increase in five years.

New vehicle sales (including minivehicles) in Japan totaled 4.95 million units, while sales in Germany stood at 3.1 milllion units.

Deregistered vehicles for export still on the rise

The number of deregistered vehicles for export purpose (Yushutsu Masshou) totaled 100,004 units in November, up 26.2% from a year earlier. This is the fourth consecutive month of increase. The November figure was up 35.1% from the previous month.

The January-November, deregistered vehicles totaled 861,046 units, down 0.1% from a year earlier.
