Used vehicle exports off 2.1% in March

In March 2011, used vehicle exports totaled 78,638 units, down 2.1% on the year. It also marked the first month of year-on-year decline in two months. The March results also indicated an increase of 14.8% compared with the previous month.

According to an analysis conducted by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA), 11 countries, including the in the top 30 destinations saw year-on-year increases for March.

Russia maintained the top place in raking for March. Exported vehicles to that nation totaled 11,007 units, up 68.6% on the year. Average FOB price also rose by around 40,000 yen.

United Arab Emirated (U.A.E.) came in the second position, importing 7,975 vehicles from Japan. But the March figure marked a 29.0% decline year-on-year.

Vehicles bound for Chile, which ranked 5th previous 5th previous month, numbered 7,523 units, making it the 3rd largest destination for Japanese used vehicles in the world.

Vehicle bound for New Zealand and South Africa declined 11.7% and 3.7%, respectively.

Exports to the fast-growing Sri Lanka jumped from last year’s 449 units to 4,276. Average FOB price also rose to 1.09 million yen. The government however, suddenly revised import tax on vehicles.

In the three two months of 2011, used vehicle exports totaled 188,373 units, up 4.1% from the same period last year.
