In April 2011, used vehicle exports showed a year-on-year increase again. The April total was 89,591 units, up 46.6% on the year. It also indicated an increase of 13.9% compared with the previous month.
Despite industry’s concern about sharp decline of exports due to disaster-damage and accidents at Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, the April figure did not affected by such negative factors.
Russia maintained the top place in ranking for April.
Exported vehicles to that nation totaled 12,202 units, up 12.7% on the year. Average FOB price also rose by around 30,000 yen. The growth, however, began to slow.
United Arab Emirates(u.A.E.) came in the second position, importing 8,115 vehicles from Japan. But the April figure marked a 27.0% decline year-on-year.
Vehicles bound for Chile numbered 8,029 units, making it the 3rd largest destination of Japanese exports.
Vehicle bound for New Zealand and South Africa rose 6.3% and 41.8%, respectively.
Exports to the fast-growing Sri Lanka jumped from last year’s 523 units to 4,559. The government, however, suddenly revised import tariff even on vans and trucks as of April 29.
In April, remarkable growth was found in exports to Mongolia, Pakistan, Kyrgyz, Zambia and China.
In January-April, used vehicle exports from Japan totaled 277,964 units, up 4.3% from the same period last year.
