Deregistred vehicles for export decline in June

The number of deregistered vehicles for export purpose (Yushutsu Masshou) totaled 48,759 units in June, down 18.9% from a year earlier.

This marked the first month of year-on-year decline in two months. The June figure also marked 57.1% drop compared with the previous month.

Deregistrations of medium-to larger-passenger car fell 12.9% to 15,602 untis, while those of small cars down 21.9% to 23,224 units.

Deregistraions of medium-to heavy-duty trucks fell 23.8% to 2,432 units, while those of light-duty trucks down 18.8% to 6,096 untis. Used bus deregistrations totaled 277 units, down 28.1% from a year earlier.

Toyota vehicles (26,039 untis) took a 53.4 of total deregistered vehicles for the month, 3.4 percentage points smaller than previous month.

In the first six months of this year, deregistered vehicles for export purpsoe totaled 465,437 units, up 2.4% from a year earlier.

Used vehicle exports slightly up in June

In June 2011, used vehicle exports showed a year-on-year increase again. The June exports totaled 76,413 units, slightly up 0.4% on the year. It also indicated an increase of 6.7% compared with the previous month. The June exports also marked the first rise in two months.

According to a country-based analysis taken by the International Auto Trade Association, top five countries (Russia, U.A.E., Chile, South Africa and New Zealand) remained unchanged from the yaer-ago month.

Exports to the market leader Russia numbered 10,771 vehicles, down 20.7% from a year earlier. But the average FOB price rose by around 30,000 yen to above 610,000 yen.

United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) came in second position, importing 7,881 vehicles from Japan.

Exports to Chile, ranked third, totaled 7,464 units, up 16.7% from a year earlier.

Used vehicles bound for South Africa totaled 5,273 units, down 10.6% on the year, Exports to New Zealand were 4,885 units, down 8.2% from a year earlier.

In June, remarkable year-on-year increase were found in exported volume to Pakistan (up 283.2%), Botswana (up 264.3%), Mongolia (up 74.9%), Kyrgyz (up 192.3%), Jamaica (up 226.8%), China (up 125.7%), Guyana (up 115.1%), Bahamas (up 117.2%), etc.

In contrast, for some destinations, exports businesses were stagnant. They were Bangladesh (down 37.7%), Georgia (down 40.0%), Malaysia (down 16.8%), Thailand (down 30.3%), Hong Kong (off 20.0%), and Myanmar (down 19.8%).

Exports to Bangladesh have been declining due to unstable regulations for used (or reconditioned) vehicle import to that country.

In January-June period, used vehicle exports from Japan totaled 426,023 units, up 1.9% from the same period last year.

Used car sales rise for 1st time in 6 months

Used vehicle registrations in May totaled 289,464 units, slightly up 0.3% from a yera earlier. The May result represented the first year-on-year rise in six months.

By vehicle category, sales of medium- to large- sized passenger cars declined 0.4 % to 115,395 untis. Small car registraions dip 0.1% to 133,056 vehicles.

In contrast, medium-to hearvy-duty truck sales rose 10.0% on the year to 14,370 units. Light-duty truck sales declined 2.4% to 18,696 units. Used bus sales climbed 75.4% to 1,665 units. Registrations of special-purpose vehicles rose 1.0% to 5,723 units.

In the first five month of this year, used vehicle registrations totaled 1,642,984 units, down 4.2% from the same period previous year.
