Used vehicles exports mark double-digit rise for 6th straight month

Used vehicle exports in June totald 76,085 units, an increase of 35.6% from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Finace Customhouse statistics. Buoyed by a remarkable increase in exports to Russia, the exprot industry marked the sixth consecutive month of double-digit increase.

According to the analysis conducted by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA), most countries in the top 25 destinations saw year-on-year increases for June.

The June total was a 0.8% increase compared with the previous month.

Russia regained the No.1 position after a half-and-a-year absence since it step down from the position in January 2009. The average FOB price also rose by around 60,000 yen from a year earlier. Exported vehciles to that nation totaled 13,591 units, up 188.7% on the year.

U.A.E. came to the second with 8,631 units, up 36.0% from a year earlier. The average FOB price rose by nearly 10,000 yen.

Last month leader Chile became the third largest market with 6,394 units, posting a decline of 0.5% from a year earlier. The avearge FOB price rose by nearly 30,000.

Used vehicles bound for New Zealand and South Africa also increased by 33.2% and 64.7%, respectively.

Exported vehicles to the top five destinations account for 52.4% of total exports from Japan than May.
